Chimerical Technology is a process engineering company specialised in the design, fabrication and operation of industrial membrane plants. The Chimerical Technology core expertise lies in membrane technology applications in the mining industry for reagent recovery, metals concentration and water decontamination but we also have a department for water treatment and commercial installations. Our research, development and years of experience in uranium processing and copper-cobalt circuits set us apart from any other company. From small residential projects to large mining plants, Chimerical Technology has covered the continent of Africa to Europe and Asia to make a mark in providing engineering excellence with quality plants and satisfied customers. We offer services from feasibility studies to on-site commissioning and everything in between, understanding that each customer and projects’ needs are different. We design and build each plant using only recognised brands and reputable vendors to ensure quality and assurance, providing our clients with the lowest life cycle cost. Les-Lee ThompsonManaging DirectorLes-Lee is nuclear engineer specialised in the improvement of uranium extraction processes. As part of the Aveng Nuclear team developing the South African Nuclear New Build Program, she took on a leadership role as the Projects & Process Manager for Aveng Extractive Technologies, targeting technology development in minerals extraction processes.
Actively involved in the mining and minerals industry, Les-Lee does more than wield a spanner. Besides implementing industrial membrane systems for metals recovery and concentration, she heads up a team that. She launched Chimerical Technology in April 2017 and her company delivers full Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication and Project Services with an active focus on continued research and development. This is reflected through the execution of unique metallurgical solutions for the international mining, rare earth extraction and fertilizer industries. Irrespective of the task at hand, her goal is simple – to drive measurable results through consistent engineering improvements. For her the word “chimerical” says it all – engineering through unchecked imagination. |
Simone OdendaalDirector - OperationsSimone drives some of the most important functions at Chimerical Technology with precision, superb skill and a solid head for business. Her passion to ensure high-end engineering solutions delivered in a client-focused style have seen her help grow Chimerical Tech into a multi-million dollar company in just over 5 years.
Her disciplined systems and detailed operational procedures ensure that each project is delivered on time and within budget – with the minimum amount of stress for both clients and engineers. She is known as The Boss Lady – and for good reason! Her experience in the renewables sector and passion for incorporating sustainable energy into the business have inspired many an engineer to tweak their designs in a greener direction. |
Marinus MorrenDirector - ProjectsA lifelong tinkerer, Marinus is a Mechanical Design Engineer with over 10 years of experience in lean manufacturing and fabrication. He joined Chimerical Technology in July 2019 and his role focuses on bringing the ideas and innovations of the team to life through designing easy to build systems.
He works with the Process, Electrical and Mechanical engineers to ensure that only the best solutions are tested and presented as solutions. Marinus’s passion is for bridging the gap between conceptual design and successful implementation and he lives by his motto: Finding simple solutions to complex problems. |
Marthinus MoolmanEngineering ManagerMarthinus started his career in 1988 at Eskom Komati Power Station as an Control & Instrumentation apprentice. After completing his engineering Diploma in 1996 he worked as Turbine Technician in the Project workshop at Duvha PowerStation.
In 2012 he went Back to the now refurbished Komati Power Station as Supervisor to start a Outage workshop for the Control & Instrument department. In 2016, he worked at Kusile PowerStation as Commissioning Engineer. In 2017, as Electrical Construction Manager for Dynamic Instruments at Kusile. In 2019 he moved back to Duvha for the Refurbishment of the Control System working for Siemens as a Commissioning Engineer. |
Timothy McClureSupply Chain & Project ManagerTimothy is a Supply chain manager with a wide range of experience in the main sectors of construction, in spending 10 years in the DRC Congo on two copper and cobalt processing plants, he started as a project planner working with one of the biggest cobalt and copper producer in Africa. From his ten years of working on the copper and cobalt plant he worked his way in to logistic project planning - supply chain managing for projects in reforming the efficiency and quality of all projects equipment and materials arranging from all countries around the world. He has supplied material and equipment to construction from a 200-ton Crushers to Leaching and Solvent extraction plants, To Roasters and Scrubber and to the finial electro winning plants. In his free time, he enjoys grabbing his hockey stick and playing a game with the gents on a Saturday morning as well as jumping on his bike to tour the countryside.

Hein BothaMechanical EngineerHeinrich graduated from CPUT and UNISA to attain a National Diploma and BTech, respectively. He cut his teeth on the compact and modular designs of containerised water treatment plants, before joining the Chimerical Technology team. Heinrich has experience in designing, modelling, drafting and contractor supervision for a wide variety of skids and plants. In his free time, Heinrich enjoys riding his motorcycle and dialling in the suspension settings for track use.

Donovan PaineProcess EngineerDonovan is a process engineer with a history of working with membrane technology. Graduating from UCT in 2018, he started his career with the Proxa Water Internship program and has since joined the Chimerical Technology team.
Donovan is an outgoing and positive personality who has experience in R&D, Commissioning and Operations. However, he thrives when working in the field. Donovan meets tasks with an infectious, upbeat attitude and an eye for detail. Come rain, sunshine or snow deliverables will be met with a smile. |
Stephen Van HuyssteenProcess EngineerStephen is a process engineer with an array of experience within R&D technologies. After completing his degree at Stellenbosch University in 2017, he completed the Engineering-in-Training program with Sappi, gaining valuable insight into industrial processing. Capable of leading a production team, plant optimization, commissioning and troubleshooting processes, Stephen spent close to two years fine tuning and developing new extraction technology in his function as Shift Manager for the Sappi Ngodwana Pilot Plant. He is dedicated to the work at hand and willing to go the extra mile to ensure success in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Perryn UysProcess EngineerPerryn is a chemical engineer with over 2 years hydrometallurgical experience on copper and cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Graduating from Stellenbosch University, he started his career as a metallurgist at Glencore's Mutanda Mine, from here he moved on to the Kamoto Copper Company. Having worked in remote locations, he has had his fair share of large scale operational experience and has a particular interest in process design control and optimization. Perryn is always ready to tackle engineering problems with gusto. When he is not in the office, you'll find him either on the golf course or on the hockey pitch.

Dolf CronjeProcess EngineerDolf graduated as a process engineer in 2017 from Stellenbosch University and decided to continue his studies by completing his Masters in Engineering from Stellenbosch in 2019. The main focus of his research was on mining waste water treatment and water re-use. After completing his masters Dolf worked as a process engineer in the water treatment industry on the design and feasibility side of projects before joining Chimerical Technologies in the end of 2021. Growing up on a farm in the Free State, he is looking forward to combining his upbringing and engineering knowledge by taking on the agricultural and water treatment projects.

David SwiegersProcess EngineerDavid (aka Dawie) Swiegers graduated as a process engineer from Stellenbosch University in 2019. He started work in the Agri-chemical field as a product developer and eventually became project lead and head of maintenance, as well as bio-stimulant production manager. He has since joined the Chimerical team to develop his engineering skills amongst a team of talented and capable engineers.
When at home or at work, Dawie is a full time cat-dad and will bombard you with galleries upon galleries of pictures at the slight mention of felines. |
Anine GoosenAdmin & Marketing AssistantAnine graduated as a Management Assistant at Stellenbosch , Boland College. She is a skilled office and accounts assistant that can offer a mix of experience within the financial sector. She also comes with a background of 2 years of nursing experience. In her free time she looks after peoples animals when they going on holiday or spend time in nature reserves to refresh her mind.
